A Stylish Urban Modern Home Office

The Challenge

To transform an empty space into a comfortable, functional and stylish home office for a busy financial professional. He also wanted the comfort and functionality needed to be able to meet with clients here on occasion.

The Solution

We started with the color palette for this project. We knew the client loved cool colors so we drew inspiration from the gray concrete floor and artwork over the fireplace, and chose a gray, charcoal gray and blue color scheme for the room. Moving on to the floor plan, we knew we not only needed a substantial desk but a comfortable seating area as well for clients and any family members who also wanted to spend time in the room.

We were thrilled to find a concrete and wood dining table that would work perfectly, both functionally and aesthetically as the client’s desk. This Urban Modern piece really set the tone for the room and informed all of the other furniture selections. For seating, we chose a small contemporary styled charcoal gray sofa and 2 blue armchairs to flank the fireplace. We found some great chrome and glass end tables that could be used as a coffee table, but also easily moved when needed. We also thought it would be a fun, very Mad Men touch, to include a bar cart in the corner for storing water bottles, and cocktail supplies, of course, if desired.

For lighting, we wanted dedicated lighting for over the desk so we chose 2 industrial style pendants, as well as a floor lamp and 2 additional table lamps for the area behind the desk.

To add textural interest to the room, we used a mid-tone gray, textured wallpaper on the fireplace wall, included a cowhide rug under the desk, and a multi-tone gray wool rug for the seating area. The client also had tall cactus plant that worked well in the far corner, adding much needed greenery and again, textural interest, to the space.

Finally, we added window casing and new dark gray roman shades to the room, which provided beautiful contrast to the light gray paint and mid tone gray wallpaper.

Our clients loved their new space and told us it was their favorite new room to hang out in!
